A good poem is a contribution to reality. The world is never the same once a good poem has been added to it. A good poem helps to change the shape of the universe, helps to extend everyone’s knowledge of himself and the world around him. —Dylan Thomas

Poets collect and arrange words the way composers choose notes and score music. In Poetry—The Music of Words you will experience the excitement of unlocking your own word-music as you master the elements of the craft—rhythm, diction, tone, meter, rhyme, free verse, and the other tools of language that poets use to create their magic. In addition to working on your own writing, we will read and listen to a wide range of poets to gather inspiration and learn the secrets of the masters. If you’ve ever felt lost trying to understand a poem, this class will provide you with the map you need to navigate the world of verse.

8 Wednesday sessions, 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm: Oct 16, 23, 30, Nov 6, 13, 20, Dec 4, 11
